Luigi De Siervo, president of the Italian Football League, has confirmed that the 2026-27 edition of the Italian Super Cup will not be held in Saudi Arabia. Despite a contractual option for another year, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Sports reportedly chose not to exercise it.
Speaking to Radio Rai, De Siervo described the situation as “complex,” noting that while existing contracts allowed for a renewal, the league must now explore alternative venues. He stated: “It’s a complicated matter. We have some contracts, and we can say the Italian Super Cup will not take place in Saudi Arabia next season.”
De Siervo added: “There is a theory that we could play in the United States, and we have ideas about other locations. We could also hold it in Italy for one year.” The decision comes after Napoli won the most recent Super Cup in December 2025, beating Bologna at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan have already secured the Serie A title this season with three games to spare and will face Lazio in the Coppa Italia final next Wednesday. The Super Cup format involves four teams: the Serie A champion, the Coppa Italia winner, and the runners-up from both competitions, leaving the league to finalize the roster for the next edition.
