Former Ferrari and Williams race engineer Rob Smedley has shared his thoughts on speculation that Australian driver Oscar Piastri could join Red Bull Racing, should four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen leave the team.
“If you are struggling to compete with your teammate in your current team—and I speak from my own experience at Ferrari—what options do you have? You could move to a weaker team that has no chance of winning the championship, but where you might be the top driver. I’ve seen many drivers take that path, and it has never ended well. Not once has a driver been satisfied after making such a decision,” Smedley told Motorsport.
