The Philadelphia 76ers are making significant changes after yet another short NBA postseason run. Joel Embiid remains the only league MVP never to reach a conference final, despite the team surrounding him with talent like Paul George, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe. Now, the front office shakeup has begun at the top.
Daryl Morey will no longer serve as President of Basketball Operations for the 76ers, according to Tony Jones and David Aldridge of The Athletic. Morey spent six seasons in Philadelphia, overseeing Joel Embiid’s MVP season, multiple second-round exits, the acquisition of James Harden, and plenty of drama. He approved moves such as drafting VJ Edgecombe, trading Jared McCain, signing Paul George, and developing Tyrese Maxey. Despite these efforts, he never guided the franchise past the second round.
The 76ers did show growth under Morey, finally defeating the Boston Celtics and rallying from a 3-1 series deficit in the playoffs. But those accomplishments weren’t enough to keep him in charge.
Former Golden State Warriors executive Bob Myers will now lead the search for a new President of Basketball Operations and will oversee the team’s operations during the offseason.
This marks a pivotal moment for the franchise, as fans wonder whether “The Process” has finally reached its endpoint.
