Coby Mayo launched a three-run home run, and the Baltimore Orioles—who failed to record a hit until the seventh inning—edged the visiting New York Yankees 3-2 in the opening game of a three-game series Monday night.

Mayo connected on the third pitch from reliever Brent Headrick after Yankees starter Ryan Weathers had silenced Baltimore for more than six innings. Despite managing just three hits, the Orioles secured back-to-back victories, marking only their fourth win in a 12-game stretch. The win also served as some payback after Baltimore was swept in a four-game set by New York earlier this month.
Ben Rice delivered a two-run homer for the Yankees’ offense, but New York dropped its fourth straight contest.
Weathers carried a no-hitter into the seventh before Adley Rutschman led off the inning with a single. After a groundout and a walk to Tyler O’Neill, Weathers was pulled from the game. Mayo, a late addition to the lineup as the designated hitter, crushed his fourth homer of the season.
Dietrich Enns (1-0) earned the win with 1 2/3 innings of relief, while Anthony Nunez worked the ninth for his second save. Orioles starter Brandon Young pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out five.
Weathers fanned nine over 6 1/3 innings. Headrick (3-1) took the loss.
Weathers walked Taylor Ward to open the bottom of the first, then retired 13 straight batters before walking Mayo in the fifth inning. Rice’s 13th homer came with one out in the third. Rice, who singled in the first, accounted for the only hits through five innings. He was retired on a lineout to center to end the fifth.
New York’s Aaron Judge led off the sixth with a double and reached third with one out but was stranded. Teammate Max Schuemann doubled with one out in the seventh and was left on base.
